Magooey's Math Problems Website

Philosophy of this site

The main idea behind this website is that the student will benefit from additional review and practice. Mathematics has to be done, interacted with, and not just passively read. This can be accomplished by reviewing the material and attempting practice problems.

Further, by learning different proofs of theorems, and multiple ways of solving problems, the student develops his toolbox and armory of mathematical techniques. This will stand him in good stead in his homework, tests and exams. It is also gratifying to discover that the mathematics the student has mastered can yield interesting, non-trivial and classical results. All these developments empower the student in the direction of a strong performance.

Another observation is that mathematics is unlike a liberal arts course like, say, history. It is possible, though not advisable, to cram for the history final exam in the last part of the semester and make a respectable showing. In contrast, mathematics requires continued effort throughout the semester. It often happens that a few weeks of review and problem solving needs to take place before the mathematical concepts clarify. Then you have an "ah-hah" moment when the meaning of what you have struggled with finally hits home.

The subject reviews and problem sets are offered to the student in the hope that they will be useful. Comments and feedback are appreciated.
